The last few days I've seen some beautiful skies. I know, I'm dutch, and we are used to
some nice skies and clouds, but to live near the sea and see all the different weather types
drifting over is something else. Once I was walking down the beach on sunset, and the sky
became prettier every second. It was a pity I couldn't share it with someone,
because I felt the urge to say out loud; 'Oh, come on, this is too much!'
I didn't even have my camera with me. I looked around to find someone to talk to,
but everbody on the beach was far away. I wish I had a dog.

I made some screenshots of a film that has been on my harddisk for quite a while now.
When I saw it the first time it felt I had found the visual inspiration for my work.
It shows a lot of beautiful images of nature, industry, and cities. Now and then I play it back,
not always with the (bombastic) music on, althought it's a fusion of image and sound,
it can make you a bit nervous.

I came across a text from a Japanese guy called Utsubo Monogatari. He wrote a book in the year 970
called The Tale of the Hollow Tree, which includes this passage:
"A tree that is left growing in its natural state is a crude thing.
It is only when it is kept close to human beings who fashion it with loving care
that its shape and style acquire the ability to move on."

This oktober I will be at the sea. As an artist in residence in Scheveningen, Holland.
It's a project of the satellietgroep. Artists Initiative Satellietgroep was established in 2006 in The Hague,
with the aim of studying the cultural significance of sea from the perspective of the arts and science.
I'll be working there from the 4th till 23th of October, the presentation will be on October the 24th.
